So I dragged my butt over to Walmart today thinking, “Heck, pool season’s here and my wallet’s crying.” Needed to grab stuff without wrecking the budget. Walked straight past those fancy grills and beelined for the pool aisle – you know the one, usually looks like a tornado hit it.
First Thing in My Cart
Spotted the huge 4-pack of chlorine tablets. Price tag said $38 bucks. Normally that stuff costs way more everywhere else. Grabbed it quick before someone else did. The packaging looked basic, yeah, but who cares huh? Chlorine’s chlorine. Tossed it in the cart with a satisfying thunk.

Dealing with Algae Blues
My pool’s been lookin’ a bit green lately – kinda like swamp water. Saw this gallon jug of algaecide for $14.97. Read the label real quick: “Kills and prevents green algae.” Sold. Figured better kill it now than scrub slime off the walls later. Plopped that jug right on top of the chlorine pack.
Cheap But Necessary Finds
- Pool Shock: Grabbed a bag of the store brand shock powder. Big ol’ bag for $17.94. Heard it works fine for a quick clean.
- Test Strips: Found a 50-strip bottle for $9.48. Not fancy digital testing, but gets the job done. Snagged those.
- Skimmer Net: Spotted a blue plastic one hanging on a hook – only $7.44. My old one snapped last fall, so yeah, needed this.
The Almost Fail Moment
Almost walked out without chlorine stabilizer! Saw that little tub near the bottom shelf – chlorine stabilizer granules for $11.88. Summer sun eats chlorine like candy; forgot this last year and paid for it. Quickly threw that into the cart too. Felt kinda dumb almost missing it.
Checking Out & Thoughts
Wheeled the loaded cart to self-checkout. Beep, beep, beep – scanned everything myself. Total popped up: just under a hundred bucks for all that. Honestly? Not bad at all. Coulda paid twice as much at the pool store. Stuff might not look flashy, but it’ll keep the water clear all summer without emptying my bank account. Grabbed my bags, walked out thinking, “Yeah, Walmart saves the day again.”
