Okay so here’s how my blow up pool toy hunt went down this week. My kids kept bugging me about getting one of those giant flamingo floats after seeing it at a neighbor’s pool party. I figured, “Hey, summer’s here – might as well grab something fun.” Didn’t realize it would turn into a whole mission though.
The Starting Point
First thing Wednesday morning, I hopped on my laptop and typed “inflatable pool toys” right into the search bar. Tons popped up – unicorns, sharks, pizza slices, you name it. Prices? Straight up robbery. Like $40+ for a single lousy flamingo! Ain’t no way I’m paying that.

Scouting Locally
Thursday rolled around and I hit three brick-and-mortar spots downtown:
- Sporting Goods Store: They had maybe five sad looking pool rings. Employee shrugged saying “supply chain issues.” Useless.
- Discount Department Store: Found a kiddie whale for $15, but it was flimsy as wet paper. Passed.
- Hardware Store: Only had pool cleaners and chemicals. Guy laughed when I asked about floats.
Wasted gas and two hours. Total bust.
The Online Deep Dive
Back online Friday, I got serious. Searched “blow up pool toys clearance” everywhere. Scrolled forever through listings. Most either looked shady or charged insane shipping. Almost caved buying that overpriced flamingo but stopped myself.
The Breakthrough
Saturday morning coffee in hand, I remembered seasonal stuff goes on sale right after holidays. Searched “Memorial Day pool toy deals” and bam – finally struck gold. Found this massive 4-piece bundle (flamingo, donut, two drink holders) discounted 60% off plus free shipping. Carted it so fast my finger slipped hitting checkout.
Total damage? Less than $30 for all four. Kids are currently splashing around on that flamingo like they won the lottery. Moral of the story? Timing matters. Patience pays. And always check after big holidays unless you wanna get ripped off!
