My Backyard Water Adventure Step-by-Step
Okay, so today I finally got my hands on this portable water game set everyone’s been talking about. Been sitting in the garage for weeks, felt kinda guilty looking at it.
First things first, I hauled that big cardboard box out onto the grass. Ripped it open – packing peanuts went flying everywhere, what a mess! Inside were all these plastic pipes, connectors, a small pump, a cloth thingy, and a huge bag of tiny plastic balls.

Honestly? It looked way more complicated out of the box. The picture made it seem like “just snap it together”. Felt a bit overwhelmed for a minute. But, deep breath! Started sorting stuff.
My plan was super simple: get some water fun going for the kids fast without needing a huge pool or sprinklers.
- Step 1: Unrolled that giant blue cloth thing on a flat part of the lawn. It’s the base. Had to nudge a few small stones out of the way – didn’t want any sharp bits underneath.
- Step 2: Grabbed the plastic poles. These are the side walls. You just push them into these little pockets sewn onto the edges of the cloth base. Really easy, they popped up nice and straight.
- Step 3: Got the pump. Felt cheap plastic, wasn’t expecting miracles. Found the instructions printed on the box about where to connect the hoses. One tube goes INto the water, one tube goes OUT for pressure? Made sense.
- Step 4: Time to fill it up! Hooked up the garden hose. Turned it on and aimed it right into the middle of the cloth base. Took WAY longer than I thought! Stood there like a lemon holding the hose for ages, watching it slowly fill. Kids started asking if it was ready yet after like 2 minutes.
- Step 5: Plugged the little pump into an outdoor socket. Threw that big bag of plastic balls straight in – WHOOSH, they exploded everywhere! Instant chaos. Connected the pump’s IN hose tube into the water inside and dropped the OUT tube over the side wall so the water would shoot back in.
Okay, big moment: Flipped the switch on the pump. Nothing happened at first. Started panicking a little. Unplugged it, checked the tubes – felt like a dummy. The IN tube wasn’t quite underwater properly. Yanked it down deeper, plugged back in… BAM! Water suddenly sprayed out the OUT tube high into the air! YES! Success!
The kids went NUTS. Jumped right in with their swim stuff, squealing like crazy. They were scooping balls, splashing, jumping around like maniacs under the water spray. Got soaked myself trying to take pictures. Messy? Oh yeah. The grass around the edges turned into mud soup real quick.
Learned a few things hard way:
- It takes FOREVER to fill with just a garden hose. Budget more time.
- Grass underneath gets SUPER soggy and muddy right quick. Place it carefully!
- The pump hose connections are a bit fiddly. Gotta push hard to really lock them in.
- Those little plastic balls? They go EVERYWHERE. All over the lawn. Finding them for months, probably.
Bottom line though? For maybe 45 minutes of setup hassle, including the hose-waiting, seeing the kids have an absolute blast? Totally worth it. It’s not fancy engineering, but it delivered exactly what it promised: quick backyard splash time! No huge pool to clean out after, just dumped the water later, hosed off the cloth, packed it away wet. Done. Easy enough for anyone to figure out with a bit of patience.
